This project was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding challenge from the start. The clients had recently purchased and completely renovated both the interior as well as the exterior of the building to a very high standard and in a very contemporary style. Two of the key considerations in garden and landscape design are connecting the design to the architecture and ensuring that it reflects the personal taste of the clients, looking at the before and after pics, it’s easy to see that that was achieved.

When I first visited the site, although the house had been completed, the garden remained untouched from the original occupants. It was obvious to me, that to achieve the design brief and to connect the design clearly to the architecture of the building, terraces needed to be created. My aim was to then set about not only creating individual sections, to both achieve the design brief, but to add additional interest, the secret Srilanken garden for instance, that reflects something of the experience of the clients from their time living and working in Sri Lanker. An additional aim of mine was not only to create a garden that was functional and aesthetically pleasing within the garden but to create something that had a greater visual impact the further one traveled up each floor of the three-story building.
